Day It’s hard to believe the school year has once again started. The school day begins with the first bell at 8:20 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:25 a.m. The students are welcome to come into the classroom at 8:15 a.m. The school day ends at 3:25 p.m. Recess/Outside The students go outside for recess in the morning and after lunch. Please have your children dressed accordingly to the weather. The only reason a student may stay in for recess is if he/she has a note stating he/she has to stay in or he/she has broken too many rules. Also, when it is cold and snowy they are to bring a coat, snow pants, snow boots, scarf, mittens, hat and they are to keep bringing them until I tell them not too. Sick/Absent If you know your child is going to be absent, please send a note ahead of time to let me know when and for how long. Then I can prepare his/her work and send it home for him/her to work on. Also, please call the school if your child is going to be gone that day. If your child has a sister/brother, they can come and pick up his/her homework for the day. If he/she is too sick to do the homework that night, that would be understandable. The point of bringing homework home is to get a start on it, so he/she doesn’t have so much to do the next day. Also, if your child is sick and is on medication, please send a note with he/she with the amount that should be given. Toys/Valuables Each student is asked NOT to bring any toys, water bottles, anything valuable to school, EXCEPT for Show ‘N Tell (Friday). I ask this so their toys wont get mixed up with the schools and so it won’t get lost. Birthdays Birthdays are always exciting! Treats are always welcome, but please send enough for everyone in the class. Also, if your child is having a birthday party and only inviting a few friends, please don’t send invitations to school. If a student that isn’t invited to the party, would probably feel left out. Book Orders will be sent home. If your child orders a book's), please make the check out to Mrs. Jennifer Fauth. I add the total up and I write one check. This is easier on me and on the book company. Library Reading is so important! We have library once a week (Tuesday) with Mrs. Schwartz. She allows them to check out books to take home and read. When you’re done reading them, the students can put them in our purple tub in the back of our room. These books need to be returned for the next library time. Also, please keep close track on your child’s book. If you’re done reading the books bring them back because if you lose a book, it’s your responsibility to pay for the book. Grading is probably the toughest thing to do in kindergarten. The grading system is set up as follows: S+, S, S- (S stands for Satisfactory); U (Unsatisfactory), I (Incomplete), NI (Needs Improvement). Satisfactory Work – means the student gave his/her best, it’s neat and done the right and correct way, and followed directions. The student can earn a S+ by giving 101% on his/her work, the work is done neatly and the correct way. To earn a S the student gives his/her best and does a majority of the assignment correctly. To earn an S- the student gives his/her best and gets a few incorrect on her assignment. Unsatisfactory Work – means the student didn’t give his/her best, rushed through to get done, did the work the wrong and incorrect way, didn’t follow directions, and is messy. Incomplete - means just as it reads – it wasn’t done on time due to daydreaming/talking, or forgot to do a problem(s). NI – means the student needs to improve in that area – by working and practicing at home and in school. The student needs to listen more carefully and closely.
STOP LIGHTS Stop Lights is the name of my classroom discipline plan. This is how my discipline plan works. Each child receives a library pocket with their name on it. Each student will have a green, yellow and red lollipop in their pocket. If a student breaks a classroom rule the first time the green lollipop gets taken out. If the students breaks another rule the yellow lollipop gets taken out. The third time that student breaks a rule the red lollipop is taken out and their name goes on the board. They also miss five minutes of recess when they loose their red lollipop. Any additional problems that same day leads to calling the parents and/or talking with Mr. Volk. At the end of the day, before the students go home, I will then award the students stickers on their incentive chart or they will earn pennies (when we get to money) to buy things from the prize box. If they have all three lollipops they get two stickers or pennies, if they have two lollipops left they earn one sticker, and of course if they just have their red or no lollipops left they don't earn any stickers. IF no one in the class looses any for the day then I will reward them with three stickers or pennies. Rules in the classroom: 2.Use your walking feet. 3.Be nice to others. 4.Keep your hands, feet and other objects to yourself. 5.Raise your hand to speak. 6.Stay in your seats unless you have permission from the teacher. Parents
are always welcome to call or stop by any time. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to
